The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake centred approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, striking at about 5pm local time (21:53:10 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake, and the Haitian Interior Minister believes that up to 200,000 have died as a result of the disaster, exceeding earlier Red Cross estimates of 45,000–50,000. This is a human tragedy of unimaginable proportions, if you can, please send some funds to assist with relief efforts. Please check the URL carefully on any sites you donate.

The SLSA and Surfwatch threw a joint fundraiser at the SLSA sim just after Christmas. The party was a rousing success with plenty of presents for all, holiday trivia, and music of course. The board thanks Ashleigh Dickins for DJing, Tauri Tigerpaw and Kitzie Lane for both providing live entertainment! All tips benefitting the SLSA! Additionally a mini-comp was held after the last performance and a group of surfers battled it out on the waves, with Wilfrid Decuir taking home first, Bobbi Laval and Velvetori Twine taking second and third respectively. They took home little trophies of SantaAbel! Congratulations surfers!

First of all, thanks to everyone who came to the Rocky Horror Picture Show party the night prior to awards. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone’s garters and lacy lingere. The movie itself is so full of fun and absurdities that it’s a great way to release some steam and celebrate the end of a season. Big thanks to the fabulous Desirae Beaumont for dedicating her DJing time!
And then came the awards ceremony. Congratulations to all of the winners of this years awards. The board is proud of the way the ceremony went with very few complications, and would like to thank all of the attendees for coming and having some fun with us as we honored this season’s greats. It’s long after December 1st, yes I know, but with the season winding down and the holidays upon us we’ve all been so busy! The December 1st election sees Ashleigh Dickins (hey that’s me!), GiavannaMarie Melody and Sally LaSalle joining Abel Halderman and Desirae Beaumont on the board. Sally LaSalle had been serving as an interim director after Robin Mapp left the board in October, 2009; and prior to that had served two consecutive six month terms from June 1, 2008 through June 1, 2009. Ashleigh Dickins prior served a six month term from June 1, 2008 through December 1, 2008 and returns for another six month term. This is GiavannaMarie Melody’s first term on the board. In addition to Robin Mapp the Board also says “So Long (and thanks for all the fish!)” to Bonheur Chenaux and WickedV Carver. Thanks for the great work guys!

On June 1, 2009, SLSA held an election for three open spots on the SLSA Board of Directors. Six candidates signed up for the election and 41 SLSA eligible voters participated in the vote. The newly elected directors are: WickedV Carver, Bonheur Chenaux and Robin Mapp. They replace retiring Sally LaSalle, Colleen Brennan and Robbin Ember on the Board, and join VW Sands and Abel Halderman for a full 6 month director SLSA Board term.
Congratulations and thanks!

December 1, 2008, we held our most recent election to fill 3 open director positions on the board. 94 members were eligible to vote, and 24 voted. The election was made easy by having 3 awesome candidates to vote on. The result was Sally LaSalle re-elected to an additional term as director, joined by Carenahh Kuu and Mick Lunasea. Sally has a long history of leadership and experience with the SLSA. Carenahh comes to us as a former SLSA board member, surf sim owner and SLSA judge. Mick is a surf instructor, coach, team captain and ranked competitor. All 3 will bring valuable assets of experience and expertise to their term as director on the board of the SLSA.
Stepping down this term are Ashleigh Dickins and Colleen Brennan. These dedicated directors have contributed so much to the SLSA, and we look forward to their continued involvement as advisors.
Our next election will be March 1 when the director positions filled by VW Sands and Tauri Tigerpaw will be up for election. Please be sure to vote – this is your organization!

September 1st was a scheduled election for 2 positions on the SLSA director board. We had 3 great candidates all of whom are great contributors to the surf scene already. 82 members were eligible to vote in this election. 39 members votes and the results were that VW Sands and Tauri Tigerpaw were elected to office. Congratulations to our two new directors
wishing you a big perfect waves and much jolification
Directors stepping down after there full term were Radical Twang and Milo Voss. The membership of the SLSA owese both these guys a debt of gratitude, seeing the association safely through some trechorous waters includint eh introduction of Havok 4 system and a constiutional crisis in which the association was left with only 2 directors. Well done guys and your deeds and efforts and love for the sport will long be remembered!
